Next Tuesday the Squirrel girls have an opportunity to take part in something that is much bigger than volleyball. We are giving up our squirrel wear and putting on purple to raise awareness for a cruel and unforgiving disease, Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's attacks people at many different stages in life. Most people think that it affects only the elderly, which is horrible enough on its own. There is another type of Alzheimer's Disease out there called early on-set. Our friends from Thompson know all to much what early on-set Alzheimer's can do. Coach DeMoe's husband's entire family is affected by this disease. We started the purple night last year in honor of them to raise funds for research. We are going to carry on the tradition to ensure people are aware of the affects of this disease and to raise funds for research.
We have had many kind people donate funds and support our efforts. Squirrel land never ceases to amaze me in generosity. I called a few people in hopes someone would be willing to sponsor our purple jerseys for the teams. Karren's Kid Kare took on the task and is sponsoring this great night. I am absolutely amazed at how people step up and want to support the kids and the learning opportunities we present for them.
I hope everyone can put on their purple gear and come out in support of not only the squirrels, but our efforts to raise awareness for Alzheimer's!!
