Five years ago Gus came into our lives, and we have never been the same...
Gus is a five year old Boxer-Lab cross. He is a sweet and wonderful boy, as long as someone is near him. We picked Gus up five days after our wedding, that is right we have been married for five years. Gus began his life with the Jim Storhoff family he then joined our family on June 19. We picked him up and peaceful life in Amenia ceased to exist.
Although Gus was free, we estimate he has cost us around the $10,000 mark over the past five years. That figure is a rounded figure that does not include the cost of food, treats, and normal medical check-ups.
There are many days people ask why? Why do you keep him? The answer is simple, we love him. With Bill gone the majority of the past five years, Gus has been with me through the ups and downs I have had. He sat with me through the twists and turns, sickness, and ouchies I have had. He has caused a few of the ouchies but for the most part he has been an amazing companion.
After about a year and six months with Gus we did get him his life companion, Sandy. The two are biscuits in a bag. Other than the falling out of the window incident, Sandy has been a God-sent for Gus. She helps ease his separation anxiety and provides a playmate while we are away.
You must be asking yourself what is the big deal with Gus, he sounds like a sweetie! In my next blog submission I will expand on the reason that Gus, who was initially free, has now cost us $10,000. Stay tuned!
